British troops 'are left to go hungry in Gulf'

Dear Daily Newspaper,

I read with interest an article today (Saturday)British troops 'are left to go hungry in Gulf'. My son is a Marine serving in Kuwait at the moment he also has asked us to send food parcels and basic essentials we all take for granted in our 'safe' world. My son went out with size 8 desert boots and he is a size 9, half of a desert suit (the half being too large) oh and tthere is some good news his hat fitted. He has now asked us to send him a scrubbing brush (for washing clothes), washing powder shower gel etc. They have no beds and when they first arrived no showers or kitchens. Part of the intensive Marine training drills in to the young hopefuls that cleanliness is paramount . I am very proud of my son and all the other troops at the moment and perhaps it is time instead of doing all the programmes and opinion polls on who agrees and who does not with war more could be done to show the plight of these men stuck out in Kuwait with very little to comfort them (and to make matters worse they see the American bases with Burger Kings, Coke 24/7, beds etc which tye cannot use). Perhaps then our bigoted Government would do something for OUR troops but perhaps they are too busy feeding and securing homes for the millions of refugees. One very proud but cynical and angry mum of a serving marine.

Yours,

Christine Dunkley
